Bali 2024: 6.3 Million Foreign Visitors

An Exceptional Growth Driven by Australia, India, and China

Bali affirms its status as a leading tourist destination in Asia in 2024, welcoming 6,333,360 international tourists throughout the year. This figure represents an impressive 20.1% increase compared to 2023 and surpasses the previous record set in 2019 by 0.93%, further solidifying Bali’s position on the global tourism stage.

The key tourist markets for Bali in 2024 are:

  • Australia: 24% of total international arrivals
  • India: 9.76%
  • China: 5.75%
  • South Korea
  • Singapore

Australia remains the leading contributor, confirming Australians’ strong attachment to the Island of the Gods. India is growing rapidly, driven by an increase in direct flight connections and rising interest in cultural and wellness tourism. China, for its part, is seeing a dynamic recovery as tourist flows fully reopen.

Visitor profiles are also evolving, with an increasing demand for premium stays in private villas, yoga retreats, wellness vacations, and cultural tours.

Ambitious Projects to Enhance the Experience and Diversify Offerings

To maintain this momentum in 2025, Bali authorities are targeting 6.5 million foreign visitors, alongside 10.5 million domestic tourists. To achieve this, the provincial government has developed an extensive strategy focusing on several key areas:

  • Organization of 54 major events: Among these, 45 are cultural, including traditional festivals, performing arts shows, and international sports events.
  • Promotion of new tourist areas: The island aims to balance the tourist influx by highlighting the northern and eastern regions of Bali, which are less frequented, through initiatives like the “3B Tour” linking Bali Barat, Bali Utara, and Bali Timur.
  • Infrastructure investments: Numerous urban and transport projects are planned, such as the improvement of main roads, the creation of cycling tourist routes, and the modernization of airports.

In 2024, Bali also introduced a tourist tax of 150,000 IDR (approximately 9 USD), exclusively dedicated to the island’s cultural and environmental preservation. This initiative has been well-received by visitors and demonstrates the authorities’ commitment to promoting responsible, high-end tourism.

The tourism development program also includes a heightened focus on promotional campaigns in European, North American, and Asian markets to further diversify the sources of visitors.
